Nothing leaves your Mac.

Nothing. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no telemetry. It never checks for updates itself. That is the App Store's job, not the app's. No information about you, your machine or your documents is gathered, transmitted or stored anywhere outside your own computer.

Your files stay on your machine. Simple .md reads and writes the files you open, save or export, and reads the images and folders you point it at. It's sandboxed by macOS, which means it can reach only what you've explicitly opened or granted access to.

One thing does leave the app, and only when you ask: Copy Markdown (Edit menu, ⌥⇧⌘C) puts the markdown of what you have selected — or of the whole document, if nothing is selected — on your Mac's clipboard, the same clipboard everything else copies to. That is what the command is for. It sits there until you paste it, and where it goes then is wherever you paste it.

Because nothing is collected, there is nothing to use, share, sell or disclose. Simple .md does not sell or share personal information with anyone, for any purpose, including advertising.

Simple .md contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code of any kind, and nothing in it phones home.

It builds on open-source components — the ProseMirror editing library and a syntax highlighter among them. They run entirely on your Mac, have no network code, and are compiled into the app rather than fetched.

Outside the app, two companies are involved and neither by the app itself: Apple, whose App Store delivers it and whose macOS checks its signature before it runs; and Cloudflare, which serves this website, as described below. Their own privacy policies cover those interactions.

There are none. Simple .md does not track you across apps or websites, contains no advertising, and shows no App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is nothing to ask you about.

Simple .md is not directed at children, and collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Because no information is collected, none is retained by us, and there is nothing to request the deletion of. There are no accounts to delete.

Simple .md does remember a few things on your Mac, in its own settings: the documents you opened recently, the Theme you chose, the zoom you chose with View > Zoom In and Zoom Out, whether files open in tabs or windows, whether the Editor was showing markdown or the rendered text, whether the Viewer and the outline are open and how wide you made them, whether Document Properties and the Formatting Toolbar are open, where the window and the Help window were and how big they were, two developer-only switches (a web inspector and a diagnostic log), and your PDF footer settings. It also keeps a permission slip — macOS calls it a security-scoped bookmark — for each folder you grant access to, each image you choose and each document you open, so that a recent document can be opened again from Open Recent without going back through the Open panel, and a note of which slips it kept automatically. A document’s slip goes when it falls off your list of recent documents or when you clear that list; the folders and images you chose yourself stay. The diagnostic log is off unless you turn it on; when it is on, it writes window positions and movements, Theme changes, drag-and-drop events and the names of the documents you open, or that fail to open, to a file in the app’s own temporary folder. Like any Mac app, Simple .md can also leave a line in your Mac’s own system log when an image or a permission slip can’t be read, and that line names the file; and the documents you opened recently are also listed in macOS’s own recent-items list, which Clear Menu empties too. None of it is sent anywhere. Your documents belong to you and stay wherever you saved them; removing the app leaves them untouched.

As with any Mac app you remove, macOS leaves its folder in your Library behind. Simple .md’s holds those settings, the documents you opened recently, the permission slips for your recent documents, the folders you granted access to and the images you chose, and the diagnostic log if you turned it on. The app cannot reach that folder to clean up after itself, and it all goes when the folder does. Nothing in it was ever sent anywhere, and nothing in it is a document of yours.

Simple .md works with the machine offline. The app’s interface is bundled inside it, and your own documents and their images are read from your disk.

For completeness: the app declares the network.client entitlement. That's required by WebKit, which macOS uses to draw the interface — without it the interface won't start. Simple .md itself never uses it to send or fetch anything.

Three things hand an address to another app, and only when you ask: clicking a link in a document, Help > Report a Problem, and Help > Privacy Policy, which is how you would arrive at this page from inside the app. A web address opens your browser; an email address opens your mail app. Report a Problem also writes a subject line — the app’s name and the version you are running, nothing else — so a report arrives knowing which build it describes; the message is a draft in your own mail app and you see it before you send it. From that point your browser is talking to that site in the ordinary way, and Simple .md gets nothing back.

got2.app loads no fonts, scripts, images or stylesheets from anywhere else, and sets no cookies of ours. We run no analytics, so nothing we put here counts you, follows you between pages, or records what you read.

The pages are served through Cloudflare. Like any web host it sees the request itself — your IP address, the page you asked for, and the time — because that is what serving a page consists of. We add nothing to that. There is no account to make here, no analytics of ours, and nothing we install that would follow you. What Cloudflare keeps of those requests, and for how long, is governed by their privacy policy rather than by us — we can promise what we do not do, not what a host does not retain.

On Simple .md's pages, every link that leaves this site goes to Cloudflare, and nowhere else — the privacy policy linked above, for the company that serves these pages. Following it is a request to Cloudflare, not to us.

The other links here are email addresses. Clicking one opens your own mail app with the address filled in — nothing is sent, and nothing about it comes back to this site.

If this ever stops being true, this page changes before the software does.
